“Mr. President, Close the US Patent Office!”

Darn!  I SO wanted this quote to be true!!

You’ve probably heard a version of this story somewhere along your journey:

In 1899, the Commissioner of the US patent office, Charles H. Duell, declared that “everything that can be invented has been invented.”

The story goes on to claim that the Commissioner advised President McKinley to close the patent office.

I have heard this story many, many times over the years, and I believed that it was true.  I didn’t do my due diligence to verify that good ole’ Chuck Duell actually made this “patently false” statement (pun intended!).

Some of the features and functionality of our newest version of Easy Party Plan software were unheard of just a few years ago.  When we began looking at party plan software for our own party plan company in about 2003, none of the technology companies had a means to capture customers’ data.  Party orders were aggregated as one massive order form that the consultant mailed in, faxed in, or entered online.

One of our “must haves” was the ability to capture all of our customers’ information — at least their names, email addresses and physical addresses.  In the old days, when a consultant left a company for another opportunity, she took  her customers with her!  We were among the very first party plan companies AND direct selling software companies to require customer contact information.  Yes, we retained the customer contact info when a consultant left, and we were also able to provide a better customer experience because our system tracked all orders and customers.

The system changes we’ve made over the past 12 months and that we continue to make every day ensure that our clients have the most up-to-date technology possible (we introduced EPP 3.0 in February 2015).  We make our clients’ lives easier by providing features and functionality that keeps up (as much as possible!) with both the changes in technology, and the changes in expectations for a modern, nimble, comprehensive direct selling software system.
